Over a century of masterpieces, films, and ideas waiting for you on West 53rd Street.

About Us

Eleven West 53rd Street is one of the most visited addresses in New York City, and for good reason. The Museum of Modern Art holds one of the most significant collections of modern and contemporary art on earth, spanning the 1880s to the present day. Visitors consistently rate it 4.6 out of 5 across more than 60,000 reviews, and first-timers routinely discover they cannot rush through it. Two hours disappears before you know it.

The collection moves across painting, sculpture, photography, film, architecture, and design. On any given visit you might stand in front of a Van Gogh, study a Frida Kahlo canvas, then turn a corner into a boundary-pushing contemporary installation. The building itself spans multiple floors, each one carrying its own curatorial weight, and rotating temporary exhibitions ensure that even frequent visitors find something new.

MoMA describes itself as a gathering place for all and a home for artists and ideas, and that mission shapes every corner of the experience. This is not a hushed, hands-off archive. It is a living institution that commissions performances, screens films, hosts public talks, and runs family programs year-round.

What We Offer

MoMA's programming goes well beyond walking through galleries. Gallery exhibitions anchor every visit, but the museum layers in a robust film series, live performances, and regular talks and lectures that bring artists and thinkers into conversation with the public. Guided tours and self-guided digital visitor tours let you move at your own pace or follow an expert through the collection.

Families have dedicated entry points through family programs and story time workshops, and lifelong learners can extend their engagement through online courses. Audio guides are available for deeper context on individual works and galleries. When you need a break, the museum's dining options and the iconic MoMA Design Store round out the visit.

New York State residents can experience the collection free of charge every Friday evening through UNIQLO Friday Nights, making world-class art genuinely accessible to the city MoMA calls home. A membership program is also available for those who want unlimited access and additional benefits throughout the year.

"It’s a great museum. With a vast collection and lots of incredible temporary exhibitions. All levels of the museum have great artworks on display. And the additional temporary exhibitions makes it even more special. One of the great exhibitions at the moment is “Frida & Diego”. Which is one of the few times that their art works are shown together. And the way it is set up is just amazing. The museum shop has so much to offer that any can find one or more items they like. This museum is a true gem. And you need quite some hours to visit it properly. Hint. Buy tickets in advance. Because there are long lines."

"Came on a weekday early, wasn't too busy. Good collection of Art. Easy to find what I wanted to see. Well organized floorplan. Plenty of restrooms and seating. The only issue I had was with some of the lighting of the art. There was some pieces with a glare off the work as you stood in front. I had to stand aside to see the works without the glare."

"If you love any kind of art, whether it be Starry Night or models of schools, this is the place to go. It is well priced and has plenty of floor with cool paintings, sculptures, and other pieces of history. It doesn't seem to be incredibly busy, but do be respectful when stopping to look at the exhibits, as people are always walking through."
